An oral history of how Texas Instruments India came to Bangalore, and its impact on everything that came after.
Raghav and the editorial team will develop one visual system for the book. The next step is to try it on sample chapters and settle the page size, type and image treatment.
This is the 1 September record. See the dashboard for current editorial and design status.
The early design routes will feed into a shared approach. Short oral-history chapters, technical explanations, photographs and commissioned pieces need to feel like parts of the same book.
Set a consistent treatment for names, quotes and editorial narration. Use spacing, scale and section breaks to vary the pace.
The collector and accessible editions will share their inside pages. Covers, binding, materials and numbering can distinguish the editions.
Reserve space for narrator and contributor profiles. The team still needs to agree which details to include and how names will appear.
Start with a chapter that brings several voices together, a technical explanation, and an image or culture section. Use these pages to work out what can repeat through the book.
Test a consistent halftone or duotone treatment for weaker scans and phone photographs. Give good photographs room to show their detail. Check the results on the intended paper.
Bedford and Dallas photographs, technical explanations, cultural stories and commissioned reporting can become chapters or shorter sections wherever they fit the reading sequence.
Use available scans to plan layouts. Identify the images that need better scans or permission before the pages go to print.
